PRESS RELEASE: SWEATDROP STUDIOS TO ATTEND THE LONDON MCM EXPO [24 Mar 2005|05:44pm]

dock
www.londonexpo.com

This year something altogether different is coming to the London MCM Expo..... Japanese Manga comics have spawned an entirely fresh approach to Sequential artwork and have given inspiration to a whole new breed of Artists beyond Japan's shores. The UK is no different. Unbeknownst to many, a quiet revolution has been brewing beneath the surface of the UK small press comics industry.

Sweatdrop Studios is one of the only groups in the UK dedicated to the creation and publication of this unique art form. You will find them in the Anime Village offering an insight into the production and appreciation of the Manga cultural phenomenon. They will be presenting tutorials, selling their own home-grown Manga products and running an Artists Alley where you can show off your own artistic skills or simply enjoy perusing the work of others.

They will also be all-too-happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the creation of your own comics from concept to printing. Whether you are a budding Manga artist curious to learn how to apply your skills, a Manga fan, or simply someone interested in broadening their knowledge horizons, you should not miss this chance to say hello to the group.

Happy 3rd Birthday Sweatdrop Studios! [25 Jan 2005|12:15pm]

dock

Sweatdrop Studios is happy to announce it is three years old today! This week we'll be celebrating our birthday in style, and we hope to share a little insight into the humble origins of this little comic group. The last few years have been a lot of hard work and a lot of fun, producing lots of new comics and trying to expand the boundaries of UK manga.

Thank-you to all the members of Sweatdrop too, for their work in keeping the group together and sacrificing so much to do the very best with their comics. Most of all, thank-you to everyone who has supported over the years. Through the forums, conventions, and simply taking an interest, you've helped to sustain us and make the group keep going, and we're certain that we'll continue to do so for a long time.

Three years, and 74 comics later, we're still kicking.
Happy Birthday Sweatdrop Studios!

Exciting News!!! [05 Jan 2005|05:24pm]

emmav
STOP PRESS!!!!

It’s been a very busy year for Sweatdrop with many new releases, new members and some exciting projects underway –
One of which we can now officially announce!
Sweatdrop are proud to announce their involvement in the following event:

The Artists & Illustrators Exhibition 2005.
July 21st - 24th

For those who don’t know of the exhibition, this is a large event which last year attracted over 14,000 visitors to London’s Business Design Centre.
As you can see, it’s an event spread over four days and will be wall to wall with artists, manufacturers, publishers and creativity! The exhibitors vary broadly across a whole range of genres and styles, and the event is always keen to introduce new and innovative art styles to the exhibition.

So where does Sweatdrop come in?

This is a very exciting time for Anime and Manga themed art in the UK, with its influence being felt now more than ever in the mainstream art world. More and more people want to know about this wonderful medium and how they can create the style. Sweatdrop Studios will be exhibiting and selling at the event, but also will be providing workshops, seminars and larger ‘conventions’; The latter being 4 x 90 minute presentations covering aspects of Manga-styled art and its creation.

The following Manga-themed presentations will be on offer over the 4 days:

Conventions:
· Day 1 – Manga – A history and overview of the Japanese Art form
· Day 2 – Manga – Creating the style #1
· Day 3 – Manga – Creating the style #2
· Day 4 – Manga – Sequential Art

Workshops:
· Kids workshop – hands-on workshop for younger artists
· Drawing a character – basic and hands-on guide to creating and drawing anime style characters
· 1 Page comic-drawing session – we’ll walk you through creating a single page comic

Demos:
· Seminar – preparing and printing comics
· Inking – demonstrating the power to change a piece of artwork through the use of inking techniques

Sweatdrop are immensely proud to be representing the UK Manga community at this event and we really hope that many of you will join us there! This is our chance as a community to show the outside world just how varied, powerful and emotive an art style this is. The more manufacturers realise how popular the medium is in the UK, the more they will cater for it! There are so many talented manga artists in the UK now, so if you’re one of them or an enthusiast of the style, why not come along? Maybe take part in the workshops, pick up some high quality art materials direct from the manufacturers (Letraset are just one of the brand names in attendance!) or maybe just wander around the event and absorb the sheer variety of artists and illustrators in the UK.
Either way, it looks set to be a big event and we’d love to see you there!

Ticket prices are estimated to be:
£11 on door
£9.50 pre-booking online
We’ll offer up more detailed information as soon as we know it!

------------------------------

NOTE - for anyone attending Tokonatsu festival this summer, yep - the
weekends are the same, which is a shame for all of us ;_; - but the good
news is that the exhibition is also open on the thursday - so no need
to miss out on the fun of Tokonatsu...and Sweatdrop will still be in
attendance at the festival too^_^
what a busy UK anime and manga calender we're getting!!! ;^_^

Sugardrops!

It's been a long time coming, but Sweatdrop's new anthology Sugardrops is finished and ready to pre-order!

Go check it out!
www.sweatdrop.net/products/sugardrops.php

The theme of the Sugardrops anthology is 'cute', with a whole variety of takes on the theme. This is out largest book to date, with 156 pages total, and a total of fifteen comics. It's professionally printed, and even has an ISBN. The price of this book is £6.00, which we think is pretty cheap, and remember that mail order in the UK has free postage!

This book will be officially launched at Amecon, but will also be available in smaller amounts at Wildercon. After Amecon, we will start to ship out books, but if you pre-order before the conventions we will try to reserve your copy and make sure it gets sent out on (or soon after) the 23rd August. If you're going to a con to buy your copy, please don't pre-order, you can't collect your pre-order at the table.

We showed off this book to a few people at LAC (london anime club) yesterday, and we can't wait to sell it at the conventions. ^___^

[cross posted, sorry!]

Looking for the Sun #3 Ashcom #2; Dock Leaves
Looking for the Sun #3 is now in stock and available to buy. I can also confirm that LFTS#4 is complete, and it's waiting to be printed! Sun Kitten is so prolific! Secondly, Ashcom #2; Dock Leaves (by yours truly ^_~) has been restocked after having sold out, so this is once again available.

Yes, we accept international orders! ^^
Recently we've had a lot of enquiries from people outside of the UK, asking whether or not they can order our titles. The answer is YES! ^_^ Otaku.co.uk, who handle our distribution, can ship to any country. They accept credit cards and debit cards too, or even Paypal or cheque if you need it. The only problem is that you'll have to email them asking precise shipping costs. Check the Payment and Shipping page for more info.

We want to improve the international order side of things soon, including some means of showing the comic prices in your local currency. If anyone has any questions or suggestions as to how we could improve things, please let us know. ^-^

Finally, there's a whole hog-load of additional items now available from the Cafepress shop (so many, that we changed the layout a little). Go there and buy stuff! ^_~
